Star Jack Company was founded in 1947 by Frank Jakoubek as a hydraulic lift jack manufacturing company. Over the years, Frank added hydraulic pumps, cylinders, swivels, and custom items to the product line. As a result, he changed the company name to Star Hydraulics. Star was later purchased by JackTindall in 1969. The Tindall family grew the company and ran it until 2012.

In 2012, the company was acquired by Alkon Corp. together with some private investors. With Brian Althoff as president, Star has made significant improvements by investing in new equipment, implementing Lean manufacturing techniques, initiating 24-hour delivery on standard products, improving on-time delivery for all orders, shortening lead-time on custom products, and improving Star's overall quality. In 2014, Star hydraulics became certified to ISO9001:2008 by NSF International. Star continues to work towards improving product offerings along with our quality, service, and cost-effectiveness.
